IS THIS THE NEW FACE OF LABOUR RELATIONS ?

UCCO SACC CSN’s National Executive was prepared to meet in person with the Commissioner of the CSC to discuss important issues regarding the Health, Safety, and Working Conditions of Federal Correctional Officers. The commissioner informed National President Jeff Wilkins that they would not meet with us in person due to the dangers COVID 19 presents yet at the same time CSC is opening up inmate access to in-person visits and programs.  The National Executive brought the meeting to the Commissioner’s front door.

For our unique working conditions, virtual meeting platforms fall short in debating and advocating for the interests of the membership. In those instances, a face-to-face meeting is the most effective means. Many significant advancements that UCCO-SACC-CSN has achieved for the membership have been the result of face-to-face meetings with the employer; meetings where your representatives can apply pressure and hold the employer accountable.  UCCO-SACC-CSN will not accept conducting labour relations in a virtual platform into the future as the new way to do business.
