When we stand united, we see results. Today the Commissioner contacted the National President to schedule an emergency meeting on March 10th to find solutions to our issues that are within her control. We will also reiterate our position on the employer’s interpretation on the use of Lieu time for designated paid holidays. The message has been received by NHQ both loudly and clearly. The members of UCCO-SACC-CSN are fed up and will go to every length to demand respect. There is now a commitment by the employer that they will amend their feedback on WCB claims for Covid-related injury to provide only factual information, leaving out any prejudice of management opinion. We have also secured our meeting with the Minister of Public Safety on March 25th. In good faith, we have informed the Commissioner that we will continue our protest inside the institutions but agree to remove our coverings while in the public space. This sign of good faith will be contingent on the employer entering into discussions with similar good faith. There remains an expectation that we will see a positive change. If there are any signs of further disrespect, our dissent will once again be communicated to the employer. The courage that has been shown in the face of our employers’ regressive actions, against what is a very peaceful protest, has been nothing short of amazing. On behalf of all members across this country, the National Executive would like to thank those who have been sent home for their solidarity. These members are certainly the heroes of this mobilization. It has been our unity that has brought us to where we are today.
