After a week of what was a marathon round of negotiations, the Bargaining Committee has finally reached a tentative agreement with the Treasury Board of Canada on Nov 29th. After a powerful mobilization by nearly six hundred Correctional Officers from across the country on November 26th, your bargaining committee was able to make the final push to secure a new four-year agreement. This tentative agreement, the largest monetary settlement our union has ever reached with our employer, compares favourably with any agreement made by any Federal Public Service union in this round of bargaining. Our success is due to the unity shown by our membership as they worked to support the Bargaining Committee.
We now wait for the Correctional Service of Canada to work with us to find solutions to our demands at the Global Agreement table. Our next bargaining session is currently scheduled for Dec 12th and Dec 13th; however, given the conclusion of our Collective Agreement bargaining, we have cleared our agenda and are urging on the department to meet next week.
Next Steps:
Once we reach tentative settlement on our Global Agreement demands, both agreements will be presented to all 49 local presidents before being presented to our 7500 members for a ratification vote (as per Clause 12.04 of our Constitution) Your Bargaining Committee is hopeful that this meeting will take place during the week of Dec 16th.
On the same day, all members will be provided with a document highlighting the results of the negotiations for both agreements. We expect to submit the tentative agreements to our Local General Assemblies across the country immediately after the Christmas break.
Your Bargaining Committee would like to thank all members for their support during our negotiations. We will continue to apply the pressure needed to reach a conclusion to our Global Agreement negotiations. We understand the eager anticipation by all members across the country and are working diligently to bring the information to you as quickly as possible.
Proud, United, Strong
