UCCO-SACC-CSN President letter to Todd Doherty concerning Bill C-321

Dear Mr. Doherty:

We are writing this letter on behalf of the nearly 7500 Federal Correctional Officers in Canada. We would like to thank you for your continued efforts and support through your introduction of Bill C-321. This important change to legislation will certainly help to address the rising number of assaults on not only Federal Correctional Officers, but all First Responders in Canada.

The number of assaults on Federal Correctional Officers has risen drastically in the last years, putting the health and safety of all officers at an extreme risk. Our everyday duties are ensuring the safety of the Canadian public, our civilian colleagues as well as the inmate population in our custody.

In recent years, the lack of accountability after an assault against a correctional officer has made our job even more dangerous. This Bill is certainly a great way to deter criminals from threatening our safety.

The Union of Canadian Correctional Officers (UCCO-SACC-CSN) officially supports Bill C-321 and would like to thank you and all your fellow members of Parliament for the continued support on issues facing First Responders in our country and recognizing the need to make amendments to Law aimed at providing safer working conditions for those performing very dangerous roles in their mandate of public safety.

Please let us know how further we can support Bill C-321.

Sincerely,

Jeff Wilkins

National President
