Xavier P.-Laberge, UCCO-SACC-CSN’s new bargaining coordinator, officially entered his post at the beginning of February 2024. He replaces François Ouellette, who left on parental leave.
His educational background is varied, with degrees in physics, mathematics, computer science, economics, and political science. He then pursued a master’s and doctorate in political studies. During his studies, he was very active in union and community activism. While lecturing at the University of Ottawa, he held several positions on its union executive and negotiated several collective agreements. Although his main experience is rooted in academia, he has also negotiated in other contexts, including the community sector.
His CSN career began as a union advisor in the Prairies, followed by a position as union advisor at the Healthcare, daycare, and paramedics Federation – Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS-CSN).
Outside of his professional commitments, Xavier enjoys running and regularly takes part in half-marathons. He also loves team sports such as soccer and field hockey and enjoys snowboarding with his daughter in the winter.
For the coming months, his objective is to focus negotiations on the most important demands:
“We aim to rationalize our demands and settle those that might be considered minor, so as to concentrate our resources where they will have the greatest impact”.
In conclusion, Xavier is delighted to return working with UCCO-SACC-CSN. He is proud to be part of a strong and committed team at CSN and is confident that our collective experience and determination will enable us to achieve our common goals.
As we welcome Xavier, we would also like to acknowledge François Ouellette’s incredible work over the past two years and thank him for his dedication.
