COVID-19 : Latest news

We have now learned that a total of 11 Correctional Officers (9 from Port-Cartier Institution and 2 Primary Workers at Joliette Institution (Quebec Region)) have tested positive with coronavirus. Fortunately, most of these members are only experiencing mild symptoms, while they remain at home.

During the weekend, UCCO-SACC-CSN has remained in constant communication with CSC to ensure that all emergency measures are being put in place to protect our member’s health and safety, and to assure that the spread of the virus is controlled to every extent possible. Both institutions remain locked down, while Public Health officials continue contact tracing, and provide recommendations to the CSC on mitigating further spread of the virus.  The Correctional Officers in Port-Cartier and Joliette Institutions are showing tremendous strength and courage in this situation and deserve thanks for their resolve in these very difficult times.

UCCO-SACC-CSN also continues the hard work of making sure that all other institutions are prepared to face this virus if or when required. We recognize that these are extremely taxing times both physically and mentally for all members, however, we will get through this together.  Keeping our communication lines open will remain an important tool in fighting against the spread of this virus.  Please keep in contact with your local executives and the employer if you experience symptoms.

We will continue to keep you up to date in regards to any developments in these situations or others across the country.

Stay safe and please do not come to work if you have symptoms.
