“These amendments made by the Senate Committee highlight the dangers of bureaucrats having an influence on correctional policy. Once again the testimonies of the professionals working in Canada’s penitentiaries have not been taken into consideration for fair evaluations of the issues. It is quite obvious the committee has given significant credence to the feelings of interest groups as opposed to the testimony of many professionals doing the job. Now that the Bill is back in the house, let’s hope that these dangerous amendments are not accepted by the House of Commons, most specifically the 48 hours cap.” – Jeff Wilkins, National President.
