20 YEARS !

To all members of UCCO-SACC-CSN,

As you know, UCCO-SACC-CSN is celebrating its 20th anniversary. In 1999 Correctional Officers across the country decided to embark on a mission to form their own union, with a structure focused on autonomy, and in March 2001, this mission was accomplished. With the help the CSN, Correctional Officers finally achieved the dream they were focused on for years. A union comprised of Correctional Officers, for Correctional officers.

Over the last 20 years, UCCO-SACC-CSN has remained focused on improving the working conditions of its members. These improvements have resulted from our united strength at the bargaining table, through the grievance process, the labour relations process, as well as health and safety decisions. At the bargaining table Correctional officers today make approximately 78% more than they did before UCCO-SACC-CSN. We have improved our leave regime, pension, schedules, and our work/family life balance. As a result of our collective action, we have fought and been successful in achieving the tools we need to perform our work. Through various committees that your elected representatives sit on we have improved our uniform, training, schedules, deployment, safety and security and continue the pressure every day to ensure a forward momentum on every issue related to our job. At all levels of the union, the essential day to day work of labour relations has proven successful. Each and every day our elected representatives work tirelessly to make improvements to our working conditions.

Your National Mobilization committee was tasked in May 2019 to make plans for union life events in each local to mark this important milestone, unfortunately, as a result of the Pandemic, many of those plans are simply not feasible at the present time. Once we start to see a resemblance of normal, we will put those plans in motion, as it will be more important than ever for us to be together and celebrate the successes we have had as a union. We invite you to wear the attached pin on your uniform. Our values of Pride, Solidarity and dignity are once again clearly reflected on this pin. It has been as a result of these values that we have come so far. It will also be those values that bring us more great success in our next 20 years.

Wishing you a good 20th anniversary.

Long Live UCCO-SACC-CSN Jeff Wilkins, Éric Thibault, Gord Robertson, Rene Howe, Frédérick Lebeau, Rob Finucan, James Bloomfield and Derek Chin.
